From April to September you can add a biological control, usually sold as ‘Nemaslug’ to the soil. This is very effective but only kills slugs, not snails. Many gardeners find that copper rings around plants work well, or you can trap them by leaving some lettuce leaves on the soil – it attracts the pests and you can then pick them up and dispose of them however you see fit.

get rid of slugs Those tips were found at 'Yours' Magazine.

Ever wonder how to get rid of slugs without chemicals? The tip that recommends using lettuce leaves is the "catch crop" method, where the idea is to actually attract the pests and then dispose of them easily. People have long used shallow containers of beer for the same effect, only with the added idea of drowning the slugs. Use jars with beer in the bottom sunken into the soil. I've never used that method, so I can't say. I have used salt on them, but that isn't going to help anyone with large populations of slugs. Beneficial nematodes are a genuine control, and worth attempting.

Crush some eggshells and add to your soil, the eggshells act like the broken pieces of glass in the soft undersides of slugs. Plus, eggshells add calcium and nutrients to your soil.

I think the best solution is diatamaceous earth, for more information on that, read my article about diatoms.
